Most admissions and career advice is guesswork dressed up as expertise. Mine isn’t. Fourteen years leading a process that reviewed more than 3,500 applications a year taught me exactly what separates a candidate who gets remembered from one who gets forgotten, and it’s rarely the thing people think it is.
The Dr. Chan Illuminate Program is the structure I use with every individual and organization I work with, whether the transition is into college, medical school, residency, a new role, or a new season of your career. It’s not a template. It’s a process for finding what’s true about you, and making sure the people deciding your future can actually see it. Sometimes those people are a formal committee. Sometimes it’s a hiring manager. And sometimes, before anyone else decides, you have to get past the toughest committee of all: the one inside your own head.
What follows is a broad overview of the Program’s shape, not the full detail of how each step actually works in practice, that level of depth is reserved for clients, worked through together once we begin. The Program itself is built entirely from my own experience, judgment, and the patterns I observed firsthand over 14 years.
